A PRACTICAL SHOPIFY SEO AUDIT
Shopify product SEO checklist before you publish
A useful product page needs accurate product facts, readable copy, useful image descriptions and a clear place in your store. Review these essentials before updating a single listing or preparing a larger group.

1. Check the product itself
Search-friendly text cannot compensate for a listing that identifies the wrong item. Confirm the brand, product type, model number, material composition, color variants, size information and photos against a trustworthy source.
- The title clearly identifies the product rather than only repeating a brand.
- The description answers the shopper's main questions using verified facts.
- Product variants match their photos, colors and size labels.
- No unsupported features such as waterproofing, certifications or measurements have been invented.
For fashion, use fit or dimension information when available, but do not infer exact sizing from appearance. Place shipping and returns rules in your store policies rather than inventing conditions for individual listings.
2. Review titles, meta descriptions and product copy
Shopify provides editable search engine listing fields on products. Give the SEO title a clear product identifier; use the meta description to summarize what is special about the actual item. Avoid stuffing repeated search terms.
Illustrative SEO fields for a jacket
- Product/page title
- U.S. Polo Assn. Blue Hooded Jacket – Model 60614-46019
- Meta description
- Explore the blue U.S. Polo Assn. hooded jacket, model 60614-46019, with quilted styling, zipper pockets and a 50% nylon, 50% polyester composition.
- Description details
- Correct brand and model; verified composition; visible hood, quilting and zipper details; sizing only when confirmed.
The jacket is from our real product demonstration, but the SEO wording above is an editorial example. Verify all visible details with the product source. Search engines may rewrite the displayed title or snippet; your metadata is not a guarantee of exactly what appears in results.
In Shopify Admin, open a product and locate Search engine listing → Edit to review its page title, meta description and URL handle. Keep URLs concise; changing a live product URL requires checking redirects and existing links.
3. Check images, variants and alternative text
Images show buyers the real item. Select photos with enough detail, consistent framing and correct variant assignments. A new background may look polished while altering color, shape or labels, so compare prepared and original images before publishing.
- The first image identifies the complete product at normal viewing size.
- Additional images show useful angles and details, not just repeated near-duplicates.
- Image colors match the correct product variant.
- Alt text describes each meaningful image naturally and does not become a keyword list.

4. Check whether search engines can reach the page
A well-written draft helps little if the product is unpublished or hidden from the sales channel. Confirm that the intended product is active and accessible through the online store, with links from a relevant collection or navigation.
- Open the published page in a private browser window and on a phone.
- Check that the title, price, images and product variants render correctly.
- Check that important collection pages link to the product naturally.
- Use Google Search Console for indexing diagnostics and your Shopify sitemap when appropriate.
- If you changed a product URL, verify a working redirect from the old address.
Shopify manages several technical SEO features, including site maps and canonical tags. Avoid altering them without knowing what issue you are trying to solve. Indexing and rankings depend on search engines; publishing a page does not ensure inclusion.
5. Turn the audit into a repeatable catalog workflow
Pick five products from one category and check the complete process manually. Record which fields are missing and which source facts need confirmation. Then prepare a controlled batch of similar products, not an unreviewed rewrite of the entire catalog.
Rezivelo Product Studio supports a separate 1-credit package for a description, SEO title, meta description and catalog tags. Image preparation also uses 1 credit per image. Review and explicitly approve generated results before publishing. It does not promise higher search rankings and does not replace the manual checks for indexing and image alt text.
For example, preparing one image and one content package for 25 products requires 50 credits. This is an estimate, not a claim of a measured result. Learn how to select and review a batch in our bulk product preparation guide.
